MAID OF MURDER 5th Anniversary Giveback!

June 16, 2010 was a monumental day in my life. It was the release day of Maid of Murder, my very first mysMaidOfMurderFront newtery novel. The book went on to be nominated for an Agatha Award for Best First Novel, attracted the attention of the world’s best literary agent, and led to the release of twelve more novels over the next five years. I can never express how grateful I am for that day and everything that came after because of it.

When I was a little girl I wanted one published novel with my name on it. Nothing more, nothing less. It has become so much more, and every day there is a new surprise, which leaves me humbly thanking God for every blessing and challenge it brings.

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of this great day, I have decided to donate all of the royalties that I earn June 1, 2015-September 1, 2015 from the two novels in the India Hayes Mystery Series, Maid of Murder and Murder in a Basket,  to charity. There is no better way to celebrate my 5th anniversary as a published author.

After the great success of The A Plain Malice Giveback last fall, I have chosen another local charity close to my heart, The Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio. My dear friend Mariellyn Dunlap Grace, who has been with me every step of the way through my writing/publishing roller coaster, works for the ministry as Patient Services Coordinator.

DSC_0051The Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio provides free medications to low-income, uninsured, and under-insured residents of Franklin County, OH. Since opening on February 26, 2010, the Charitable Pharmacy has served 4,250 patients and dispensed over 200,000 prescriptions valued at more than $17 million. All the money raised will go to this worthy cause.

Please watch this video to learn more about the pharmacy or visit their website for more information.

The cost of all ebook editions of both novels is $1.99!

India Got Paperback! New edition of Maid of Murder

It’s been a long time coming, but I can finally share with you the cover of the mass market paperback edition of MAID OF MURDER.  This new edition will be published by Harlequin in July 2014, just a few weeks from now and is available to purchase through Harlequin’s website. Click here to see the pricing.

I can’t tell you how exciting this is for me. MAID OF MURDER will always be the book of my heart. It’s my first baby, the one that started my career, the one nominated for the Agatha, and the one that made my dreams come true. I’m so happy that it will now have a chance to reach more readers in paperback form. Huge thanks goes to my super star agent Nicole for making this happen.

Now the cover…

maid of murder pbHERE LIES THE BRIDE . . .
An upscale Fourth-of-July wedding. A beyond-horrible bridesmaid’s dress. A snobbish mother-of-the-bride from hell…. If the struggling college librarian India Hayes didn’t owe ex-friend Olivia Blocken a big favor, she’d bail before the champagne is chilled. Especially since India’s brother, Mark, is still piecing his life together after Olivia’s callous rejection, and India’s family won’t forgive the not-so-beautiful bride. Now Olivia is dead in a campus fountain—and police find incriminating evidence in Mark’s possession. And even as India tries to keep her parents’ street-theater protests from sending the investigation into a tailspin, she must dig deep to uncover Olivia’s secrets. But trapping a murderer with a lot to lose won’t be a piece of eight-tiered, 24-karat-gold-frosted, crystal-decorated spun-sugar cake….

It’s so different than India’s first cover, but I do love it! I like to think India is a bridesmaid in the middle with the skull bouquet. 😉

  3. My favorite color is pink.
  4. 95% of the time I am cold.
  5. Ground Hog Day is my favorite minor holiday.
  6. I won my first writing contest when I was in third grade. The story was about a girl who was sad because she had the last name Garfield. Everyone made fun of her because of the cartoon cat, but in the end, she learned that she was a descendent of President Garfield and felt proud of her name.
  7. I love to laugh.
  8. I enjoy my day job as a librarian almost as much as being a writer.
  9. My Appleseed Creek Series is very, very loosely on my experience living in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
  10. I’m afraid of needles and clowns. If I saw a clown holding a syringe, I would probably pass out.
  11. I love scarves. See number 4.
  12. When I have free time, I love to do crafty things, especially making jewelry.
  13. I’ve swam with dolphins.
  14. The most adventurous trip I ever took was to Israel and Jordan.

  16. I have one older brother.
  17. I have two cats, Reepicheep and Mister Tumnus… you probably knew that if you follow me on Facebook. They get a lot of face time over there.

  20. Nothing makes me happier than organizing something.
  21. Flip-flops are the best footwear ever invented.
  22. My next novel releases on February 15, 2013 and is called A Plain Scandal. You probably knew that, but I had to get it in there.

  25. I get my wit from my father and my imagination from my mother.
  26. My favorite job ever was being a basket weaver at a living history museum.
  27. I love cupcakes. Okay, you probably knew that too.
